Small section mill 250-4 is part of the section rolling shop No. 2, located on the territory of the AMKR in Kryvyi Rih. The total investment in the reconstruction of the Small section mill 250-4 amounted to $ 55 million. This is the largest reconstruction in the rental department over the past 20 years.
Roughing mill stands at work
The main volumes of reconstruction performed by BC “Olvia”:
- Construction of a new furnace at the site of dismantled furnace No. 1
- Installation of equipment in the area after the furnace
- Installation of a new heat-strengthening line
- Installation of a mechanized packaging line for rolled products
- Implementation of an automation system
- Installation of a rolling mill production line in riots
The general designer was the equipment supplier, Danieli.

- An important feature of the project is that the reconstruction of the workshop was carried out in the conditions of the existing production.

Comments of the Deputy Director for Technical Issues:
All works were carried out in the existing workshop in cramped conditions, with working technological bridge cranes. During the implementation process, unexpected key tasks arose:
-
To build a new heating furnace, it was necessary to dismantle the old furnace inside the workshop to the level of -9 meters. In the process of performing the work, unexpected flow of groundwater and process water was formed, which was not provided for by the project.
- There was a need to carry out a full-fledged project and installation of water reduction, to install 3 lines of shots from a pipe f900mm between the sheet piling. All work was accompanied by daily monitoring by the geodetic service of the status of existing plant structures.
-
With the existing equipment, it was necessary to make a concrete tunnel 20 meters long under the new production line at -6 meters. These works were accompanied by the pumping of process water and the strengthening of existing foundations
- On this project, about 12,000 m3 of monolithic concrete were accepted for the technological structure, 3,000 tons of technological equipment were installed.
- The design of the stove base slab required a continuous intake of 1,500 m3 of monolithic concrete.
Gas flue with recuperator on a heating furnace
Specialists of BC “Olvia” demonstrated great experience and technical skill in the implementation of a complex, multi-layer project for lining the furnace and gas ducts using modern technologies, which entails
-
Increase furnace life
- Improving the performance of its work
- Reduced energy use by more than 30% due to reduced heat loss.
